Peasedown St John Parish Council
Minutes of a meeting of the Amenities Committee held on the 16 July 2007 Peasedown School
Present: Cllrs A Spiller* J Bolwell#, Mrs M Kennedy, Mrs K Thomas, C Rich,
D Edler, R W Butt (SO43) Peter Provest (Lay Member) J Rich
Public Session - None
These minutes, which had been previously circulated were agreed as a true record and signed by the Vice Chair.
Allotments – The monies received for the allotment rent is correct as all allotments have been halved to accommodate all those on the waiting list.
I had rung the chairman to ask his opinion on allowing people outside the village to have an allotment and at the time as the waiting list stood at nil he thought that those people should be allowed to rent an allotment.
The sign for John Derrick Way has been ordered and is being made.
The planter at the entrance to Greenlands Rooad – I have met with B&NES and it has now been replaced.
The clerks have checked the prices of paper used in the office and the recycled paper costs more than the paper usually used. If the council would prefer recycled paper to be used then we can take that forward with the next stationery order.
Cllr D Edler moved that recycled paper be used and this was agreed by all present
I have chased yet again the problem of the day burning light in Braysdown Lane and have now a firm date – 20 July 2007. I have also had an email from Dan Norris re this and his assistant rang me after I had replied stating this has been ongoing for many months due to the two companies not coming up with a date convenient to both. The assistant also mentioned the seat at the end of Frenchfield Road and was very keen that this subject be discussed at a future council meeting. I explained that there were two views to this problem, not just the one to remove the seat. I said that I would try to include the subject on the full council agenda on 23 July 2007.
There was a unanimous decision to not include this matter on the agenda for full council as it was felt that this had been debated and a decision reached last year.
The clerk said she would inform Dan Norris of their decision.
A decision was taken to contact Dave Craddock to take forward the first option costing £175.00 + VAT
It was decided to add the following to the existing rules:
‘That for their own health and safety no dangerous chemicals should be kept on site and that shed doors should always be kept locked.’
The clerk is to contact ALCA and Allianz Cornhill for further advice.
Cllr RWG Butt spoke regarding the parking in the village / PACT. Parking was one of the items that PACT had to take forward, and it was hoped that the council would know more after the PACT meeting on 17 July 2007. Several councillors are to attend this meeting and will report back. PCSO’s were seen moving vehicles on, but are unable to issue tickets to those responsible for illegal parking. It seems that the yellow lines are being ignored.
Cllr RWG Butt feels that the Wagon & Horses should be approached with a view to using some of their land that abuts the present car park in Greenlands Road., but it would require a great deal of work to bring it up to standard. The clerk should contact the highways department within B&NES to ask if they have a scheme in mind to ease the parking problems in Peasedown St John other than taking out the build outs and marking the road.
A discussion took place regarding the costs of this project and how best to go about taking it forward. The clerk is to determine the exact costs of putting in each electricity pole the mechanisms for the working and attachment of the light and cost of each Christmas light. The amount in the budget for this year in this category is £2500.00.
Cllr J Rich suggested that the mechanised systems for the working of the lights be put in during this year and next year the lights be purchased and attached, and then to have a formal switch on. It was agreed to look at this matter in September and make a formal decision.
The budget for the year.
