Public Session

Mr. Provest asked if the committee might consider the erection of a public clock.

  1. Election of Chairman
  2. Chairman of Council asked for nominations and he was asked to take the chair.

  3. To consider a suitable ceremony/structure to mark the occasion

Chairman opened the discussion by saying that, at the Millennium, this Council had built the play area in the Recreation Field to mark the occasion while other Councils, he said, opted for nameplate stone on the roadsides. He thought that the village should have some stones, which would signify the Parish Council's 50 years in existence. He said that two rough stones polished only on one side with suitable inscriptions should stand on land under this Council's control at the Radstock and Dunkerton ends of the village. The rest of the meeting agreed that prices should be obtained from a local man known to the Chairman.

The suggestion from Mr. Provest was then discussed and was eventually deferred possibly for another suitable occasion.

Mrs. Kennedy asked if the Beacon could be ignited. Members agreed that a birthday party could be planned for a summer evening when the Chairman could entertain until the lighting of the Beacon at dusk. Mrs. Kennedy added that the Beacon Hall Committee would like to offer the Hall free for the occasion.

The meeting was closed with a promise that the committee would be recalled when prices are obtained.

Meeting closed at 8.25 p.m.
