THE PHOENIX RISING

by Jessica Joan Hancocks

It was almost the eve of Jubilee: there was the crowd;

Walls of human sorrow stand in a deafening silence bowed.

Even one soft sigh dares not to betray the grievers cloud.

No one moved, no one even smiled; for a whole century we’d been beguiled.

But even the saddest loss can hold a gain: those she left us still remain.

A queen, her namesake daughter - Elizabeth Regina the 2nd will still reign.

We long-lived folk can recall "Lilibet", a happy sunny child;

Her beloved, loving Father - King-; her Mother, sparkling, yet sweet and mild:

Then suddenly before us stood a sad young women, still in shock and grief:

"I will be good", she said: she was young and still untried.

Only her inward strength could provide such self-sufficient sure belief.

Through the abyss stretched before her she must stride: with a stalwart man by her side.

She did not flinch though heavy-laden; she was strong and sure;

Upright, composed through five decades she was resolute and secure:

Her commitment is entire; her duty proclaimed in words and speech:

Love of Home and of Country, manifest; one dainty foot poised on each.

Regard her, take a long, long, look; there she stands, monarch, citizen, and a mother.

Some tasks may prove a burden, she shows no fear; only once and

One time only did she bewail a dolorous year.

This is the Day the Lord has given, one retrieved for the living

From a gracious Phoenix which has died: even immortal planets rise -

Come out to shine, when they see the divine: the newborn Phoenix - wise;

Raise your voices, come forth; be seen; sing out with pride:

"God bless, and save Our Gracious Queen."

Ode to Her Majesty the Queen

by Allen Harman

From treetop hotel with jungle view

To palace in London Town

From Glasgow and the launch of the QE II

To walking the Chinese Wall, Up and Down

From Aberfan and disaster

To Olympic Games down under

From joyous Coronation and much laughter

To Annus Horribilis and much wonder

Her ups and downs have like ours been manifold

And through all Her fifty years as Head of Nation

She has served us well so lets be bold

And wish Her Majesty a happy Jubilee celebration

JUBILEE

by Adam Baker age 8

Crown

Gold, silver, jewelled,

Waiting to be worn,

Like a precious treasure,

In a silver glass case.

Throne

Gemmed, gold, sparkly,

Waiting for its golden day,

Like a sparkly chair,

Inside the palace.

Queen

Kind, helpful, part of the royal family,

Waiting for the Golden Jubilee,

Sitting on her throne,

Like a smiley face.

THE GOLDEN JUBILEE

by Jasmine-Alice Brown age 9

Get up, Get up with out delay,

The Queen will visit Bath today,

Someone shouted hey I’ve seen the Queen,

And she is wearing green,

From the kingston parade, We waved and waved,

We had waited many hours,

Before my sister could give her flowers,

I gave the Queen a card, Which she admired.
